And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.

This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another,

“Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,

and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

Do Something

with what God says
What must I do........to be saved.....

Look into what Jesus offers for yourself - don't take anybody else's word for it....

go and read the Bible for yourself, attend a worship service for yourself,

what God has shown you
post a facebook video or a post on what you have learned recently

a video sharing your testimony

these shepherds told everybody

the message was personal

the message was experienced by a group

the message was fresh

the message was compelling

it was a story that they could not not tell

Don't let that fresh story of what God has done for you lately go to waste, grow stale or lose its momentum

the message was verifiable - you may not have seen it, but what we were told was what we found....

Credibility

comes from consistency
prophecies about Jesus

the only ones that remain relate to his second coming, and many of those are more visible than ever......

angel shared with the shepherds

the heavens were filled with angels affirming the message

the shepherds went and saw the reality of what they heard

Seek the Lord!

  • No God - no glory
  • No Jesus - no peace
  • No searching - no finding
  • No finding - no believing
No God - no glory, but the heavens were filled with the glory of God and the shepherds went home glorifying God

No Jesus - no peace - yet the Prince of Peace comes to a lost world that acts like its lost, like sheep without a shepherd - yet those who find Jesus experience the peace of God because they have found peace with God

reminds me of Jesus request for workers in Matthew 9:35-

35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were

they were being impacted negatively by their circumstances

harassed - annoyed by unrelenting fears and anxieties yet unable to find relief

and helpless - feeling discarded, without any chance of getting help, being
put down and kept down....

like sheep without a shepherd - no one to turn to for direction or encouragement

37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

no searching - no finding

The world is searching for answers, but in all the wrong places.....but the Lord promises, you looking for God you will find him...

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

no finding - no believing

Acts 2:21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

Christmas is a great time to Call on the Lord

God is Faithful

at the end of the day
and they returned

headed home after a long day of watching God work, sharing what they saw, being pumped up because God verified his message...

glorifying - saying and singing how great is our God, describing the character of God, drawing attention to Him

praising - listing the greatness of God's character and his activities as an act of worship

God

because

What the angel told them God was doing....

Was exactly what they saw...

Ask God to show you.......
