Political Goals

  • Joseph II tried to strengthen the Hapsburg empire with his enlightened reforms, but the changes he made were met with fierce opposition.

Religious Policy

  • religious reform of emperor Joseph II during the time he was emperor of the Hapsburg monarchy as part of his policy of josephinism a series of drastic reforms remodle austria in reform of the ideal enlightened state

Foreign Policy

  • the Hapsburg empire had a policy of war and trade as well as intellectual influence the borders while opposing Persia and turkey.
  • in foreign policy there was no enlightenment, only greed for more territory and willingness to undertake unpopular wars

Legacy

  • Joseph main aim was to make the empire more efficient and financially secure. believing that he was doing what was right and necessary. Joseph did not bother to smooth the way with nobles or clergy who felt threatened by his changes.

The life of Joseph II

  • Joseph II was born in Vienna, Austria during his time in power, Joseph issued decrees that promoted equality and education, but the speed and scope of his reforms lead to problems for him and his empire, Joseph died in Vienna on February 20, 1790 at age 48
