PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ZIKA

Zika is formed by mosquitoes, as a viral disease.

It's only common in the southern states or countries. It can affect anyone, even unborn babies. 38,212 Zika cases reported in the US. 147 have been people returning from foreign countries. 38,065 have been from local-mosquito borne transmission. 11% of people have Zika in the US.

SOME WAYS YOU CAN GET ZIKA

  • Mosquito bite
  • Sexual contact even though that is rare.
  • Blood transfusion
  • Mother to child transmission

SYMPTOMS OF ZIKA

  • Skin rashes
  • Mild fever
  • Muscle and joint pain

It can affect pregnancy, the baby can have a misshaped head and brain malfunctions.

You can treat it, unless you are pregnant, then the baby already has Zika. You can get plenty of sleep, drink fluids (water) and take Tylenol to prevent fever. You don't want to take anything other than Tylenol because it could be too strong.

There are no vaccines to prevent Zika, but good bug spray can help the mosquitoes stay off of you.
