Habitat
Puffins live on the open ocean with the area rang to the eastern coast of Canada and the northern United States to the western coast of Europe and northern Russia.60% of there kind live near the Iceland's.
Food
Puffins have adapted to the open sea.They hunt lots of sea animals that is why one of their nicknames are sea parrots.They hunt herring,hake ,sand eels and capelin.They supplement (add to) their meals by drinking salt water.
Young
Clowns of the sea(puffins)dig about 3ft. deep burrows in rocky cliffs either in soil or between rocks. A lot of times mates will come back to the same burrow year after year.At the end of the burrow puffins will build a nest with an outline of grass,seaweed, and feathers.After the female lays a single egg the parents take turns incubating the egg for about 40 days.After the egg hatches the parents take turns feeding the baby chick so I can eat several times a day.
Coloration
A puffins beak color is white with a mix of black and blue with a reddish orange. Half of the puffin is black the other half is white. On the side of its mouth its orange.puffins also have a bit of red and black around their eyes. Their webbed feet used for swimming are orange.
Body type
When puffins flap their wings up to 400 times per minute. By flapping like that the can reach the speed of 88km/h 55mph. Puffins spend most of their lives out at sea.
Fun facts
Puffins are a mix of a Tuscan and a penguin. They can keep about 10 fish in their mouths at once. Their nicknames are clowns of the sea and sea parrots.Puffins bright beaks change colors every season.
In the winter their beaks turn a grayish color.
