Erasure Poetry
Rules:

1. You can only use the words from the text.
2. You have to use the words in the order they appear in the text.
3. Your poem will be what is left behind.
So.. Have fun! Erase and create something

(This is a form of found poetry,
but I like this idea better!)

Life Graph
1. Draw a line across the middle of the page (horizontally is best).
2. Begin graphing by placing your high points ABOVE the line and the low points BELOW the line.
It is best to do this in chronological order.
Remember… the higher the point on the graph, the better the experience!

Each individual day that we are given is filled with high moments and low moments. Even in one day, we have experienced a multitude of both. You may also want to try to zoom in on “a day in the life” to do a separate graph. What are the highs and lows you experience in a day? This exercise can lead you to those issues that have been simmering, but also to small moments of gratitude

What role does writing have in your classroom?
What role does writing have in your life?
Writing... let's discuss it.

Writing ...
...when you were younger (elementary/ middle school age), what did writing mean to you? Words? Phrases? Negative and positive words!

This is where my journey with writing began...and ended.
This is when I was told I was not a good writer.
This is when I realized that I was merely a body and I did not feel seen.
I did not feel heard.
I was lost.

bullied. embarrassed. I was not a good writer, but I was worse at math, history, geography and every other subject. Writing was something that I could use to escape all the events happening at school. Moved in middle of 7th grade, etc...

Writing?
It didn't exist.
Writing would make the trauma real.
With writing, I would see the words and still not grasp what happened.
And, I was told I was not a good writer.
Why would I write when what I had to say wasn't important?
I wish I had a teacher, a mentor, anyone who would simply ask me...
Who are you and what can I do to help you.
I simply wish...

I wish my teacher knew...
OR
I wish my students knew...

Even on your worst day, you can be a students best hope...

Even on your worst day, you can be the reason someone comes to school...

Even on your worst day, there is a child you pass in the hall who needs to be heard. Maybe you are the one meant to hear it.

Even on your worst day, you can be the reason a student does not commit suicide...
