What Are Tropical Savannahs ?

  • Savannahs are flat and covered with grass.
  • They are nearly treeless but have widely spaced trees.
  • Savannahs are areas of troprical and subtropical areas.

  • Some savannahs are located in Africa,India,Austrailia,and South Africa.

ANIMALS

  • Adaptations are needed for animals to survive in there ecosystem.
  • Animals migrate when there is a dry season with little water.
  • Camoflage and herds protect animals from predators.
  • Savannah animals : lions,cheetahs,elephants,giraffes,gazelles,zebras, and rhinos.
  • The Savannah has great biodiversity!

PLANTS

  • Grasses are important plant life.
  • Some grasses grow 6 to 9 feet tall.
  • Trees are important also.
  • Without trees Savannahs would be prairies.
  • Acacia,lemon grass,whistling thorn and kangaroo paw.

WEATHER/CLIMATE

  • The savannah has a dry and wet season.
  • Winter is dry and cool but not cold.
  • Summer is rainy and humid.
  • Savannahs are warm all year around.
  • 15 to 25 inches of rain falls during the summer.

SOIL

  • During the dry season soil is very unfertile.
  • Animals waste helps the keep the soil fertile.
  • In the wet season the soil tends to be very fertile.
  • animals also leave behind nutrients.

RESEARCH

  • In some savannah there are tribes.
  • The savannah makes up 33% of africa.
  • The savannah is one of the most diverse places.
