As you may know The Great Depression and World War II were a very hard time for Texas. Most people didn't have jobs and they were very poor. Now lets learn about how it affected Texas and its people

Great Depression

  • Texas's population increased by 25%
  • Texas's profit was based on agriculture which fell victim in The Great Depression
  • There was great drought in the southern states which Texas suffered greatly
  • Dust Storms blocked the sun for hours and made it almost impossible for people to see
  • Cotton was at its lowest price it had ever been. 5 cents a pound

World War II

  • Texas gave 750,000 men and women in uniform
  • 1,500,000 came to train in Texas
  • Texas Beef, Petroleum products, medical supplies , and weapons were used overseas
  • 22,000 Texans died

In conclusion Texas played a big role in the great depression and world war II by still selling cotton and having tons of military bases for soldiers to stay in
