ENTROPION/INVERTED EYE LIDS

  • This is a disorder where the eyelid, primarily the bottom lid folds in instead of out. This occurs to lambs after birth.
  • This can cause percent damage to lambs if it is not caught and treated.
  • The eye lid can irritate and blind a lamb from the lid scratching the cornea,which can lead to infection.

CURE? ...YES

  • There is a cure for this disorder. Take note that this is a hereditary disorder and the mom or father is contaminated with this gene and can spread to future lambing
  • 1.The first option is to roll the eye lid back into the correct position.watch for 24 hrs if the eyelid rolls back in toward the eye proceed to option 2
  • 2.Second option if the eye lid pulls back in to the eye is to give a 1 ml injection of antibiotic into the eye lid to create a pocket/buffer to keep the eyelid faced out and prevent further damage to the cornea.

COMMON IN WHICH BREED

  • This disorder occurs in all breeds there was no distinct percentages saying one was more susceptible then the other.
