Winter

Winter - 40 miles one way in the snow is not an exciting prospect

Tired

after working during the day

I have a full time job that sometimes leaves me exhausted at the end of the day, with little or no energy for additional tasks.

This fatigue has been a growing factor in me fulfilling my agreed upon role at Parkside, more so than we expected.

More Time

for each of the next challenges
To get the church to the next level, it requires more time and energy than I have available

Nothing that the church is facing is insurmountable in my opinion... but it does require more time to address some of the issues, for example:

strengthening the community contact - more time
improving financial reporting system - more time
general pastoral care/visitation - more time
leadership development - more time
general oversight - more time

Neighborhood

live in the
I am not in a position to move to Sterling Heights:

with an 80 year old mother to care for, her network of relationships is in our current area

would require my wife driving 60 miles one way to

work u need a pastor who:

can live in the community

actually connect with the community in meaningful ways

Financially

not quite ready

While we are stable financially,

and we did look at some other funding options with Pastor Jimm,

the church is not ready to fund a pastoral position to the point I could quit my day job yet....

Our Time

is up....
We have met our 6 month obligation - it has been a positive experience for us.

We have done what we could

Made some great new friends

Had a chance to help the church some and Pastor Jimm as he oversees the process

Clear conviction from the Lord that we have fulfilled our role in your rebuilding and it is time to move on.....

This may seem like a quick decision to you but Pastor Jimm and I have been discussing these things for a month, seeking the Lord, wondering what was next, and deciding on how to announce our departure

Untitled Slide

Pastor Tom Knight heard my time was up he called Pastor Jimm, and said he had been praying for the church and has made himself available to fill the pulpit for the next few weeks.......

He is from the Boston area as many of you know, and he is the only person I have ever met in Michigan who loves B and M baked beans like I do.....so I brought a jar from my personal stash, as a visual reminder for you and Pastor Tom that we will keep praying for you and hope to stay connected as things move on....

Road Called Perseverance

Hebrews 12:1-13

Perseverance

  • continue in difficulty
  • remain under
  • endure
  • put up with
25.174 ὑπομονή, ῆς f: capacity to continue to bear up under difficult circumstances—‘endurance, being able to endure.’ τῆς ὑπομονῆς τῆς ἐλπίδος τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ ‘endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ’ 1 Th 1:3.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith, goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

2 Peter 1:5-9

5For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith, goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

We all have “them”

Things we’d be better off without

Avoid Sinful

entanglements
The sin in our lives

Step over the line

Miss the mark

Wander off the path

Uniquely customized vulnerabilities

Those temptations that “wait for us”

Shake them off like an extra jacket

Run the Race

before you
Run not walk

urgency, purpose, focus

opposite of running in circles

Long term perspective

to remain, endure, continue

with hope and confidence

The race placed in front of us

put there by God

choose to follow

Look to Jesus

Fix our eyes on Jesus

Worked through the pain

Ignored what they said about him

Took the power seat

Remember

His Sacrifice
Command to think about……

What Jesus endured

Evil accusations

Sinful opposition

Executed as a criminal

So we don’t “run out of gas”

Lose heart - let go….and of our souls, give up
