ADOLF HITLER

  • Adolf Hitler and his nationalist socialist (Nazi party) rearmed their nation
  • After he became Reich Chancellor in 1933, Hitler swiftly consolidated power
  • Hitler believed that the German army had been betrayed by civilian leaders and Marxists.
  • Found the Treaty of Versailles degrading
  • Hitler returned to Munich and continued to work for the military as an intelligence officer.

JOSEPH STALIN AND THE PACT

  • Hitler and Soviet Union leader , Joseph Stalin , signed the German Soviet Nonaggression Pact.
  • 1939, Hitler invaded Poland from the west ; later France and Great Britain declared war on Germany because of this action the Hitler pulled.
  • Supreme ruler of the Soviet Union for a quarter of a century
  • One of the most murderous dictators in history
  • Population suffered immensely during the Great Terror

WORLD WAR II

  • Conflict that involved virtually every part of the world during the years 1939-1945
  • The war was in many respects , a continuation after an uneasy 20-year hiatus , of the disputes left unsettled by World War 1
  • This war would take more lives and property around the world
  • April 9 , 1940 , Germany simultaneously invaded Norway and occupied Denmark
  • May 10 , German forces swept through Belgium and the Netherlands in what became Known as " Blitzkrieg "

SECRET PROTOCOL

  • Stupefied Europe even without divulgence of the secret protocol
  • Hitler thought he can attack Poland with no danger of Soviet or British intervention
  • They agreed to sign the Treaty of Versailles
  • The war devastated all of the countries economy
  • Germany , Japan , and Italy form a coalition called the Axis Powers

SURRENDERING

  • Germany, Austria, and the other countries are on the losing side of the war
  • Required them to give up arms and reparations
  • This act is called the Treaty of Versailles
  • All other countries threatened to invade Germany if they do not sign the treaty

BECOMING STRONGER

  • Extreme form of patriotism that grew in Europe became even stronger after World War II
  • Led to the rise of dictatorships in the following countries ; Germany, Italy, Japan and the Soviet Union
  • United States , Great Britain , China and the Soviet Union make up the allies

GERMANY REGROUPING

  • It was fought predominantly in Europe and across the Pacific and Eastern Asia
  • Hitler remilitarized Germany , stressed racial purity and sought " living space " for the German people
  • Germany would be militarily stronger and harder to defeat.
  • England knew that the German people were strong when they had good leadership

GERMANY

  • German troops scored victory after victory , driving deep into Soviet territory
  • Both sides battle back and forth , with the Germans pushing into the Caucasus and attempting to take Stalingrad
  • had been first to win power in Germany proper, next to consolidate Germany’s domination over Central Europe
  • the building up of a continental empire embracing all Europe, including the European portion of the Soviet Union

THE WORLD'S WORSE WAR IN HISTORY

  • WWII was the most destructive conflict in history
  • It is estimated that 1.5 million children,men,women died during the war
  • Jews and others deemed undesirable were persecuted or murdered
  • Members of the liberal, socialist, and communist opposition were killed, imprisoned, or forced into exile

BATTLE OF BULGE

  • Battle of Bulge is the largest and deadliest battle for the United States
  • Battle of the Bulge started on December 16th 1944
  • he ordered a massive attack against what were primarily American forces
  • Hitler’s plan was to launch a massive attack using three armies on the Allies
  • Hitler believed that his forces would be able to surround and cut off Canada’s First Army
