ANTONIO VAVALDI

March 4, 1678-July 28, 1741

CHILDHOOD

  • He didn’t start out as a musician he actually studied to become a priest when he was 15
  • And when he got older he got taught to play the violin by his dad and would often perform together
  • He even continued to study the violin even after he became a priest

ERA OF MUSIC

  • Antonio Vivaldi composed in the baroque era
  • His compositions in this era include, Argippo, Bajazet, The Four Seasons, and Gloria e Imeneo and many more.
  • His compositions were written from 17th through 18th century.

INSTRUMENTS

  • Antonio wrote over 500 concertos for instruments like, the mandolin, cello, viola d’amore, recorder, and lute.
  • But around 230 concertos of them are actually for violin.
  • Which he was really good at since he got taught by his dad

WHERE HE LIVED

  • He was born in Venice, Italy March 4, 1678
  • And died in Vienna, Austria, July 28, 1741
  • He worked in other places too like Mantua and Rome
  • And taught in Venice

HIS NICKNAME

  • His friends would call him “ il Prete Rosso” - the red priest
  • They called him that because of his curly,red hair
  • His dad was just nicknamed “rossi”-redhead
  • Since Antonio got his red hair from his dad

TEACHING

  • Vivaldi spent all his time writing music and teaching in Venice, the Pio Ospedale della Pietà. The name means “Devout Hospital of Mercy”
  • In 1703 he began teaching violin to girls at an orphanage and often wrote music for them to play

FAMILY

  • Antonio was the oldest of six/eight children.
  • His father was a professional violinist and many other jobs including composer, barber, and copyist
  • Also Vivaldi got taught the violin by his dad
  • His parents were Giovanni Battista Vivaldi and Camilla Callicho

HIS DEATH

  • Since Charles VI died that left Antonio without any royal protection or a source of income. Soon Antonio became impoverished and died during the night 27/28 July 1741 age 61 of internal in fection/asthma and died poor because he wasn’t being payed by Charles VI
