What does a sports announcer do? According to Zachary Lichter they provide a unique, exciting, and intelligent account of a game. What makes an announcer different is their ability to convey information in a creative and fun way. Vin Scully was amazing at this. Scully also did something that made him very very different then other announcers. He told stories, these stories ranged from an interaction at a coffee shop to meeting infamous home run hitter babe ruth as a child.

According to Steve Bisheff in Rich Wolfes I saw it on the radio, “Vin Scully is still going strong. His play by play calls are velvety smooth as ever with his story telling and his wonderfully descriptive phrases spilling out as easily as your morning orange juice”.(Bisheff) to have someone describing your ballgame to you with such amazing vocal talent and fascinating information, it made it impossible to not have the volume turned up. The experience of the game has taken over the actual playing of the game now. so it becomes an announcers job to sell said experience to a fan listening in.

“Vin Scully is the greatest pure baseball announcer of all time, and it's not even close.”(Addame) Having said this, the question how do sports announcers elevate the experience of the game becomes an easy one to answer. Because in relation to the text which is a tribute to the greatest pure baseball announcer of all time Vin Scully is a perfect example of how an announcer elevates the experience of the game.
