This is MY Future

What is your dream career? Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years? Your future is yours to make come true!

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ThIS IS MY FUTURE!

BY CLAIRE FERGUSON

I WANT TO BE...

A MAKEUP ARTIST

SAMPLES OF JOBS OF A MAKEUP ARTIST ARE...

  • Commercial makeup artists
  • Hair and makeup designers
  • Makeup artists
  • Prosthetic makeup designer
  • Or a special effects makeup designer

The average salary is $29.31 hourly, and $60,970 annually. This fits me because it’s enough to live in a small house with a pet or two and maybe a car. It is a little small for my tastes, but Iwould enjoy doing the job.

THIS IS CONSIDERED A BRIGHT OUTLOOK JOB

  • Which means that it is predicted to grow in need up 14% within the next 10 years. That means that there will be about 1,000 job openings within the next 10 years, too.

SOME SKILLS NEEDED ARE...

  • Speaking- being able to talk to others and convey information clearly

ACTIVE LISTENING

  • Being able to actually listen, not interrupting, make sure that you understand, clarifying if you don’t, and responding at appropriate times

JUDGEMENT AND DECISION-MAKING

  • Being able to compare the pros and cons and decide if the pros outweigh the cons

COORDINATION

  • Being able to adjust how you act based on how others act

CRITICAL THINKING

  • Being able to use logic and reasoning
  • To identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems

WHAT KIND OF EDUCATION DO YOU NEED?

  • Most people say you need a post-secondary certificate
  • A post secondary certificate can be earned at a college, above secondary learning (high school) it can also include apprenticeship

A typical schedule of a makeup designer would look something like this:

8:30 Arrive at work
8:35 -9:00 check the client database to refresh your memory on yesterday’s work, and see what new things you have today

9:00-9:50 reapply the same makeup from yesterday to achieve the same look

9:50-10:30 discuss the budget for the new motion picture you’re working on, and figure out how to distribute money across different makeup

10:30-11:00 cleanse and tone client’s face to prepare for putting on makeup for the day

11:30-12:30 assess another client’s skin type and test and analyze the makeup you are going to use to make sure it won’t cause break-outs

12:30-1:00 eat lunch and read and analyse a script and find things in the script that might effect the character’s appearance

1:00-2:00 figure out the things you need to requisition /and/or acquire and then go to the directors and talk it over

2:10-3:10 make reference sheets for makeup you did for today so you can make it look the same again

3:10-4:10 Attatch prosthesis to the actors for the new alien movie

5:10-6:10 Wash and reset wigs, and advise people with hair dye

6:10-7:10 assist actors in taking off their makeup for the day properly

THIS CAREER MATCHES THE SKILLS AND INTERESTS I HAVE BECAUSE...

  • I love to do art (this is just art on a person’s face
  • I am very imaginative, so I would be good at making unique looks
  • I like to work alone, but with a support network, helping and suggesting me along

POSITIVES OF THIS CAREER

  • I love doing art, and this would be very fun
  • I would be able to look at a movie and say, hey, I made x look like that!
  • There isn’t a lot of extra work to take home with you

NEGATIVES OF THIS CAREER

  • It doesn’t offer a LOT of money
  • You have to gain a reputation first before you start really doing things
  • If the director says you need to change it, you need to change it

Overall, I believe the positives far outweigh the negatives, and this job would be very suitable for me
