MOST LIKELY TO DEVELOP LUPUS

👉Lupus occurs 10 to 15 times more frequently among adult females than adult males.

👉Most often occurs between the ages 15 & 44.

👉It is more common among African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, & Native Americans.

👉Only 10% of the people with lupus will have a relative with the same case & only about 5% of the children born to individuals with lupus will develop this disease.

TREATMENTS FOR LUPUS

👉Currently, There is no cure for Lupus.
👉It is normally based on the specific needs & the symptoms of each person.
👉Treatments for Lupus include: corticosteroids, immunosuppressive drugs, & lifestyle changes.

QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THAT PERSON

👉The immune system normally protects the body against viruses, bacteria, & other foreign materials.

👉With lupus, the immune system loses its ability to tell the difference between foreign substances & it's own cells.

👉Basically, the immune system makes antibodies directed against "self".

LIFE EXPECTANCY

👉They can range from mild to life threatening.

👉The course of lupus varies & is hard to predict, because symptoms come & go.

👉 It usually develops slowly that a person may not notice for a long time.

👉Most people with lupus are able to live a normal life & continue with their usual activities.

👉It all just depends on how severe your disease is, whether it affects vital organs (kidneys), & how much these organs are affected.

👉But when your symptoms flare, you need to cut back on any activity levels, get help with care, & change the way you work.

👉A key to living with lupus is communication.

👉Keep in touch with your doctor, employer, & family that way they understand what you can & can't do and what they can do to support you.

👉Lupus means wolf.

👉Moms, dads, & kids can get lupus. Cats, mice, & dogs, too.
👉Isolation & depression are common for people with lupus.

👉Lupus can hurt any part of the body, such as: the heart, skin, & kidneys.

👉Some people with lupus have sore legs & have trouble walking.

👉Some people have a rash that looks like quarters all over the body.

👉People with lupus can not go to the beach & they have to wear hats all the time to keep out of the sun.
