WEATHERING AND EROSION

CHEMICAL WEATHERING

  • Chemical weathering occurs when rock is broken
  • Down into a new substance by water or elements in the air
  • An example would be sand

PHYSICAL WEATHERING

  • Physical weathering is when a rock's shape or size is changed
  • But it is still the same substance
  • An example would be boulders turning into pebbles

WATER EROSION

  • Water erosion occurs when a stream of water picks up sediment
  • And moves it down stream. The amount and distance that the sediment is
  • Moved depends on the force of the stream
  • Examples of water erosion would be murky rivers or deltas

WIND EROSION

  • Wind erosion is what happens when wind picks sediment off rock,
  • Mountains, the ground, etc., and transports it somewhere else, similarly as water does.
  • An example would be sand dunes

GLACIAL EROSION

  • Glacial erosion occurs when a glacier very slowly changes the
  • Environment around it by moving
  • An example would be a valley in cold climate regions
