How they work
the cladding acts as many mirrors along the walls of the fiber continuously reflecting light. the light is contained within the core and continues along its path inside the cable.

WHAT DO THEY CONTAIN

  • Strands of glass that are bundled together
  • Silica cladding
  • Layer of plastic around glass
  • Strengthening FIBRES around coating

Uses
Optical FIBRES are most often used in communication where they replace copper wires as they can send more information.

They also work in endoscopy where they can bend inside the body to reach into hard places.
