SOFTWARE

• Also known as computer programs
• The non-tangible component of computers
• Software is stored in computer memory
• Microsoft Word, iTunes, and Google Earth are examples of software

APPLICATIONS

• Applications are forms of software
• They must be downloaded onto your device
• They are used to help you with daily life
• Also used to pass time or gather information
• Flappy Bird, Google Maps, and the calendar are examples

OPERATING SYSTEMS

• Also known as "OS"
• Collection of software that manages computer hardware
• Provides common services for computer programs
• It's part of the system software
• Application programs usually need an operating system to function

PERMANENT STORAGE DEVICES

• Computer storage that keeps the data whether it's on or off
• The storage device may be moved to another computer
• Hard drives are the most common of the storage devices

RAM

• Random-Access Memory
• Form of computer data storage
• Allows. You to access data in any random order

ROM

• Read-Only Memory
• Storage device
• Data can only be modified slowly or with difficulty

CD R VS. CD RW

• Both CD's may be written on
• CD RW may be rewritten
• CD R has permanent data

SAVE AS VS. SAVE COMMAND

• Save as allows you to have more options for saving
• Such as changing the save name
• Changing the type of document
• Choosing the place where you would like to save it
• Save command just saves the document generically

CLOUD COMPUTING

• A phrase used to describe a variety of computing
• Involves a large number of computers
• All connected through the internet
• The ability to access an application from multiple devices

TYPES OF COMPUTERS

• There are many kinds of computers
• Desktops are bigger and more stationary
• Laptops are portable desktops
• They run off of a rechargeable battery
