WEATHERING AND EROSION

CHEMICAL WEATHERING

  • The erosion or disintegration of rocks, etc. caused by chemical reactions
  • Can be shown by stained rock
  • Acid rain

MECHANICAL WEATHERING

  • The process of weathering of which physical forces break down rock
  • Ex. Weed growing in a crack and when water freezes in a crack

WATER EROSION

  • The breakdown of rock into smaller particles and it's removal by water
  • Ex. Grand Canyon, streams and rivers

WIND EROSION

  • The detachment, transportation and deposition of topsoil/sand by wind
  • Usually happens in deserts and beaches
