EXPOSITION

Exposition: The exposition of the book The mark of Athena is on a floating celestial bronze, dragon headed ship that is flying over camp Jupiter. The attendants(Or main characters) on the ship are Leo the shipwright/son of Hephaestus, Annabeth the leader/daughter of Athena, Jason the roman/son of Jupiter, Piper the daughter of Aphrodite, and coach hedge the satyr/undercover gym teacher.

RISING ACTION

The rising action is when the crew of the Argo 2 go down to compromise with the people of camp Jupiter. A harpie named Ella tells a prophecy that requires seven demigods to go on a quest to defeat Gaea (a godess) and her armies. While they still talk Leo is aboard the Argo 2 alone when a spirit possess him causing him to fire canon balls at the camp. This lead the camp to hate them and track them down on their quest.

CLIMAX

The climax is when Percy and Jason fight the twins giants in a tournament to get Nico ( son of the god of the underworld ) free from his cage. Bacchus ( the Roman god of wine ) help them by easily disintegrating the giants into nothing.

FALLING ACTION

The falling action is that Nico is saved and healing and Annabeth defeats Arachne (a spider lady) and is waiting for the Argo 2 to come and save her.

RESOLUTION

The resolution is that everybody gets back on the ship except for Percy and Annabeth who both fall into Tartarus. The rest of the crew think of how they are going to get their friends back and come up with a plan to do it. Nico told them that they could save them by entering through the mortal entrance of the doors of death ( a hidden passageway that is like the gate to the underworld through the mortal world

THEME

I think the theme of this book is to always trust your friends. In the book there are so many parts when someone might think they are going to die but then an unexpected arrival happens when your friends come to save you. That also plots the whole story because Nico. D Angelo gave up hope of being rescued when he was actually saved

SUMMARY

The theme of the book " The Mark of Athena ", by Rick Riordan is to always rely on your friends. I think this is the theme because it applies to Many parts in the story. Here is an example when a character was helped out, "We won't give up," Jason growled. "We'll cut you into pieces like Jupiter did to Saturn." "That's right," Percy said "You're both dead. I don't care if we have a god on our side or not."
"Well that's a shame," said a new voice. (Riordan, 521). (And the new voice that appeared was a god that was going to help them fight the twin giants). This is an example of when they had to help eachother out. "You have to work together", Piper cried, hoping she was right (Riordan, 498)
"Both of you think of clean water-a storm of water. Don't hold anything back. Picture all your power, all your strength leaving you." (Riordan, 498). The examples could go on and on of how much they helped eachother, but that is what got them through the quest and also built their relationship. They were able to trust another more which is good for teamates.
