BATTLESHIPS AND GUNS

YAMATO

  • Became the flagship of the Japanese combined fleet.
  • Led by Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto.
  • Launched on August 8, 1940.
  • Named after Yamato Providence.
  • Unable to achieve speeds higher than 27 knots.(50 km, 32 miles)

MUSASHI

  • Built for imperial Japanese navy.
  • Launched November 1, 1940.
  • "Sister" of the battleship Yamato.
  • Used to transfer equipment in 1944.
  • Torpedoed in early 1944 by an American submarine.

T-11

  • First light machine gun the Japanese invented themselves.
  • Held 5 clips on the left side, so any one could put ammunition in the gun
  • Weighed 22.5 pounds empty.

NAMBU PISTOL

  • Produced in 1935.
  • carried eight 8 x 21.5mm nambu rounds.
  • The nambu is one of the worlds worst guns manufactured.
  • A problem with this pistol was the exposed sear.
  • If enough pressure was on the sear, the gun would fire.

ARISAKA TYPE 99 RIFLE

  • Manufactured 1939-1945.
  • Replacement of the type 38 rifle.
  • Used the most until surrendered to allied forces.
