  • The reason he is loyal is because he signs the bond for Bassanio.

  • Antonio lend some fortunes to his good friend, Bassanio.

Racist & Prejudice

  • Antonio did not like Jews.
  • He doesn't show respect for Shylock because of his religion.
  • There is an example of this in Act 1 scene 3.

  • The bond was the contract which Antonio owned Shylock a Pound of Flesh

Ships of Fortune

  • These ships were full of Antonio's fortunes and wealth
  • Because all his fortunes were held in them, they took about 2 months & couldn't pay Shylock back in time

  • Money was a big part because this was what Antonio had owed Shylock after he had borrowed his fortunes.

Pound of Flesh

  • A Pound of Flesh is what Shylock wanted for not getting back his fortunes.
