AVOGADRO'S LAW

BY:EMMA SOFLIN

Untitled Slide

LIFE FACTS:

  • His full name is Count Lorenzo Amedeo Carlo Avogadro
  • At the age of 20 he was awarded a doctorate in canon law
  • In 1803 he published his first scientific paper
  • At age 30 he started teaching highschool math and physics
  • In 1820 he became a professor at the university of Turin

LIFE FACTS CONTINUED:

  • In 1811 Avogadro published a paper in Journal de Physique
  • In 1815 he published a paper about the masses of atoms, their compounds and their gas densities.
  • Between 1837-1841 he published four volumes looking in detail at the physics of matter
  • He was married with six sons

THE GAS LAW:

  • published it when he was working as a physics teacher at the College of Vercelli-1811
  • equal volumes of all gases at the same temperature and pressure contain equal numbers of molecules
  • first scientist to realize that elements could exist as molecules rather than as individual atoms

HOW THIS GAS LAW IS USED:

  • Throwing an aerosol can in a fire
  • Inflating a basketball
  • Flat tire vs. Inflated tire
  • Lings as they expand with air
  • Helium balloon vs. Air balloon
