THE EARTH'S AXIS
- The Earth rotates around an imaginary line that runs through its center= axis
- It takes the Earth 24 hours to rotate around its axis
- The the Earth rotates at a 23 degree angle
- At any given time 1/2 of the Earth will have daylight and 1/2 will be in darkness
- Revolution: The motion of 1 object around another
- It takes the Earth 1 year to rotate around the sun

SEASONAL PATTERNS
- Seasons: Patterns of temperature and other changes
- Equinox: When the Sun shines equally on the North & South hemisphere, so 1/2 is lit and 1/2 is in darkness
- Solstice: The area of sunlight is at its highest in 1 hemisphere and a toys lowest in the other
- There are two Equinox and two Solstice
SEASONAL PATTERNS CONTINUED...
- They happen around the 21st of a particular month
- September Equinox:
- Sun shines equally on the two hemisphere
- The beginning of Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere
- The beginning of Spring in the Southern Hemisphere

- December Solstice:
- Northland Pole leans away from the sun= complete darkness
- South Pole leans towards the sun=complete sunlight
- Winter solstice in North and Summer solstice in the South
SEASONAL PATTERNS CONTINUED...
- March Equinox:
- 1/2 of each hemisphere is lit around the equator
- June Solstice:
- Opposite of December
- North pole leans towards the Sun
- South Pole leans away from the Sun
- Start of summer in the Northern hemisphere, start of winter in the Southern hemisphere
