Rosa parks in the $20 bill

  • Altough Andrew jackson has been on the 20 dollar bill since 1928. its time for someone who really cared about people to be in the front of the bill. rosa parks should take the place, because she becamed an 'ionic symbol in the fight for civil rights.

  • i choosed her because she became an ionic symbol in the fight for civil rights. her actions led to her being remember as the 'mother of the freedom movement'.

Biography

  • Rosa Louise Mccauley parks. born on feb 4,1913 in alabama. she atended school trough out her life but had to drop out in highschool when she was a junior to help take care of her mother and her grandmother. Then she worked as a seamstress in a shirt factory in montgomery.

  • in 1932 rosa married raymond parks. she was the 1st women to join the 'national association for the advanced of color people'(naacp).

  • On december 1, 1955 a bus driver comanded for her to give her seat to a white american, but she refused to. she was arrested for disobeying an Alabama law wich required black people to give their seats to white people when the bus was full. Once she was in jail her husband bailed her out. She was fined $14, but she didnt want to pay because she tought she had not broke any rule.

  • many blacks were angry. after Jo Ann Robinson protest that blacks werent aloud to ride buses, and they didnt for a hole year. Rosa parks took this case to the supreme court, and fought for what she tough was right. The supreme court said the Sagregation rules were wrong, and all blacks were aloud to sit wherever they wanted.After this she went back to Motgomery to support Dr.king on civil rights marches.

  • over the years rosa recieved many awards and honors, including the 'medal of freedom' award, given to her by president Clinton in 1996.
  • mrs.parks died in 2005 at the age of 92 in Detroit,mi after she was diagnosed with dementia the previous year.
