PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Being a Responsible Citizen

Mr. Melkonian

Citizen - according to the dictionary

An inhabitant of a city or country.

Is it really that simple though?

It depends on our point of view

I hate the news....

sometimes television is going to give you some good info, but keep looking

Internet

or interwebs...

Enormous amount of information - but not all sites are reliable when it comes to information. Who's writing the 'fact'? How much research are they citing? Does someone stand to benefit from this?

Again, can be a great start

but you have to do more research for specifics

Newspaper

can supplement what you learned from TV or internet

Good for student researching a topic. Can sometimes find high quality articles which can specifically be beneficial for student research.

Community Resources

people around can help share knowledge on certain topics

Bias

All of the sources probably have some

Bias is the emphasizing of certain facts over others. We have to assess the amount of bias that is present in all sources.
