DEFINITION AND STEREOTYPES I HAVE SEEN

  • Definition: to believe unfairly that all people with certain charachteristics are the same
  • I have seen:
  • In happy meals, the toys are separated into boy and girl toys
  • In tv shows, in the brady bunch, the maid does chores the wife cooks and the dad works
  • In class, girls arent strong enough to do something

STEREOTYPES IN THE MEDIA

  • This a ad from the 50s
  • It is stereotyping women because they thought women were too weak to open a ketchup jar
  • So the company made the cap easier to open so now, "women can open it"
  • Supposably women needed a man to open ketchup bottles!

2ND STEREOTYPE IN THE MEDIA

  • This picture portrays a man who is showing off his muscles
  • In the caption it says that he is "manly" for showing his muscles
  • The woman is depressed because she thinks he is the boss
  • He is teaching the kids that you have to be strong to be manly

3RD STEREOTYPE IN THE MEDIA

  • In this picture th police officer has donuts
  • The stereotype is that all police officers are fat and eat donuts
  • Maybe this police officer is not gonna eat it maybe he is gonna give them to someone

BREAKING A STEREOTYPE

  • This is a picture of a strong women
  • People usually think that women are not strong
  • And men usually do all the work
  • But in this case she is a strong working woman

  • This is a man and he is doing yogs
  • The stereotype is that only women can do yoga
  • He is breaking the stereotype and doing yoga and he is a boy

  • This is miley cyrus and she has short hair
  • She is breaking the stereotype that girls have to have long hair
  • People think that girls have to have long hair to be a girl
  • And boys have to have short hair
  • Miley cyrus has short hair and she is a girl

  • She is breaking a stereotypes that only guys can play football
  • She is a girl and she is playing football
