Ngati Toa

A tribe that has been around for centuries
and which now has a marae in Taupo/Plimmerton and another in porirua.

Te Rauparaha And Te Rangihaete

These influental people are very well known around this tribe as they played big roles in getting the tribe to where it is now

The Content

The maraes you will usualy see are all different the carvings and symbols are unique in their different ways and that makes the marae even more exciting

The Migration

Because of the arrival of waikato troops the tribe had to migrate south fighting along the journey

The Pepeha

There are many different parts in Ngati Toas pepeha,
such as Tainui the waka and Whitireia the maunga

Ka Mate Ka Mate

Because of the NZ rugby All Blacks that perform it before games it has now traveled and is known through out the world as the haka of Ngati toa

Setting Up Shop

Kapiti Island was used as headquarters for Te Rauparaha and many battles were fought around it

The Europeans

so came the Europeans the Maori of Ngati toa were outnumbered 10 to 1 but that didn't stop them from fighting the battle and using their code they won and had a victory

Ngati Toa Today

Today the members of this tribe like to enjoy a hangi and chillax by the fire sharing stories of the ancestors and sleeping in the cozy whare on the hongoeka marae.
