THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

Mouth
•Teeth, tongue, and salivia
•Breaks food into smaller and smaller pieces with salivia and moisture

Esophagus
•A hollow and a muscular tube Contracts and sends food to the stomach

Stomach
•Hollow muscular pouch
Uses muscles, acids and other chemicals to break food into smaller pieces

Small intestine
•A tube lined with villi
Absorbs nutrients into blood and chemically digest food

Liver
•Large triangular shaped organ
•Aids in digestion by producing chemicals that break down food

Large Intestine
•Tube that contracts and pushes food towards the anus
•Help to get rid of waste and absorbs water back into the blood

Anus
•Muscular opening that allows wastes to exit the body
