- People of Galatia were Gauls or Celts
- Eager for the 'new'
- Paul had been with them a year before
- They needed help
3 REASONS PAUL WROTE
- Defend his Apostolic calling
- Deal with false teachers
- Build up believers in fruit
Judaizers had begun teaching the Galatians church that they must be circumcised to be saved.
That would mean that the Law was greater than the Gospel of Jesus.
Meaning that the price Jesus paid for our freedom was not enough.
THE JERUSALEM COUNCIL
- Several sects had arisen in the churh
- This could have split the church
- Each division thought it was correct
- God's wisdom prevailed.
- The church was saved.
Peter acted like a Gentile with the Gentiles.
When the Jews showed up Peter distanced himself from the Gentiles.
Paul did not agree....
Paul openly corrected Peter.
Paul put forward arguments that were compelling.
While now resolution was given in this portion, later interactions between the two Apostles show they were on good terms.
