Women and Men

  • Clothes worn during the era was influenced by geometric shapes.
  • The features were designed to give the impression of a small waist -which were desired by women and men.
  • Men would sometimes were girdles the equal of the corset to get the wasp waist look. They also were tight pants.

Upper Class

  • Cloth of gold could be worn by the Queen and her lady relatives.
  • Expensive clothing- Velvets, satin, furs, silks, lace, and tafetta. Ruffs and ruffles were worn by both men and women.
  • Clothes were decorated with heavy embroidary, jewels, and pearls.

Fabric

The ideal woman had light hair, snow white complexion, and red cheeks and lips.

Colors

  • Purple- royalty
  • Gold, silver, deep indigo blue, deep black-highest nobility of the land.
  • English law- Cannot wear whatever color you like, it is determined by ones status or position.
  • The Sumtuary Laws were laws providing strict clothing guidelines.

What they wore

  • Men- Corsets, hats, cloak, belt,ruff ruffles, breeches, and shoes.
  • Women- Ruffs, petticoat, stomach, gowns, cloaks, shoes and hats.
  • Average person
  • Both genders wore so much layers of clothing!
