Misconceptions
1. The Earth's orbit is in shape of an ellipse, so sometimes the Earth is a little bit closer to the sun than other times.

Misconception
2. The seasons are controlled by the distance between Earth and the sun. During winter in Utah, the Earth is farther from the sun than in the summer.

Misconception
3. The sun is closer in parts of orbit than others. The time that it is slightly closer is NOT in the summer. It's in the winter!!

Mayley's Lesson:
The Earths axis is a circle. It is just 1% off. The Earth is tilted 23.5 degrees. It takes the Earth 365 days to orbit the sun. The North Pole always faces the North Star! The poles are cooler because they are farther away from the sun.

Atlas' lesson
The earth revolution the sun is just a little off the center of the orbit around but the sun is not off center enough to effect the seasons
