His first day of school was when he was 11 and he only went for one day

He joined the seminary and was kicked out after his first year
He was readmitted through the efforts of his mother, a parish priest, and the superior of the seminary.
He was ordained a priest in 1816

He founded the Marist brothers in1817

LANTERN STORY
After meeting with a young dying man, John Baptiste Montagne, Marcellin and another priest were caught in a bad snow storm.
They prayed the Memorare because they were lost and scared.
Soon after they saw a light from a lantern that guided them to safety.

JOHN BAPTISTE MONTAGNE
John Baptiste Montagne was a kid that visited Marcellin when he was dying.
John told Marcellin that he knew nothing about Jesus Christ.
This horrified Marceliin and inspired Marcellin to form the Marist Brothers.

MARCELLIN'S DEATH
Marcellin died of cancer on June 6, 1840.
He was 51 years old.

SAINT MARCELLIN CHAMPAGNAT
Marcellin was declared venerable in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV.
He was beatified in 1955 by Pope Pius XII.
Marcellin was canonized a saint by Pope John Paul II on April 18, 1999.
His feast day is June 6.
