Donner Party Expedition

  • They spent the winter in the Sierra, Nevada Mountains.
  • They were there from winter 1946- 1947

The Donner Party expedition was led by George Donner and James F. Reed. They were on their way to California in a wagon train when they got caught in the storm.

They ended up running out of food

and when a person of the expedition died, they ended up eating that person.

is the act or practice of humans eating the flesh or internal organs of other humans.

Their expedition insisted on about 90 immigrants. They had about 20 wagons.

The Difficulty

  • it was difficult for them to travel through the mountains.
  • Hastings left a note for them telling them that the route ahead was more difficult than he thought.
  • The donner party ended up going the wrong route and ended up getting caught in the storm.

The immigrants were told to make camp and wait

until he returned to show them a better route. It took almost a year for them to be found.

They were stranded

  • they were stranded until about a year later when most of them died and had been eaten
