ARTIST'S BIO

  • Nickname: The Father of Modern Art
  • Date of Birth: March 30, 1746
  • Birthplace: Fuendetodos, Spain
  • Date of Death: April 16, 1828
  • He died at 82 years old in Bordeaux, France.

GOYA'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • He was the appointed paintor for Charles III and the court painter for Charles IV
  • 80 Caprichos (his commentary on politics/social events)
  • His dark artwork (Black Paintings) and protests against war
  • Regarded both as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns
  • He is considered to be the greatest painter of his era.
