SIMILE
A simile is comparing a human to something not human.
Here is an example of a simile, Jimmy ran as fast as a cheetah.

Onomatopoeia
Onomatopoeia is a sound. For example like pow and clang.


Imagery
Imagery is when a writer is showing or describing a picture. For example, the mountains were alined perfectly so the sun goes right through them.

Hyperbole

exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. Such as do all the things or break a leg.

Metaphor
A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally. The car looked like it was traveling at the speed of light.

Personification
the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something not human. An example was the cat was fast as lightning.

Alliteration
the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of closely connected words. An example is Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers

Mood
Mood means a state of mind or feeling. Such as happiness.

A cliche is an overused fraise such as happily ever after.

Idiom
An idiom is a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words. For example, it's rain cats and dogs.
