Nearly 3,500 blacks and 1,300 whites were lynched in the United States between 1882-1920.
Most blacks were lynched for allegedly having assaulted or murdered black men.
Lynching is now illegal in every state in the U.S.
Lynching still happens to day, in lesser developed regions, but is not common practice.
