Jake is a middle school boy who loves winter, Jake's mom and his sister Emily live in a small neighborhood in Milwaukee. When Opa (Jakes grandfather) comes to town, Jake opens up a whole new side of himself he never knew he had. First he becomes friends with one of the school bullies (Jimmy), then he picks Jimmy to be on his team for a Math Tournament. He witnesses his grandfather and a couple retired soldiers stand up for a women of minority's race. Through these experiences jakes learns not to judge a book by its cover, and to not be so passive to other kids.

I would recommend this book to older kids who like to read about other people's growth and development and accomplishments. I thought this book was just a phenomenal story. The way it draws you into the story and connects you to Jake and his life is just great way to write a wonderful story like this one. Opa's Rhyme was also a and funny story to read. It will probably make you smile when Jake and his friends accomplish something big. You don't even have to be a big reader to enjoy this book, that comes automatically, just try and enjoyment is definite.
