THE OLIVE-BRANCH PETITION

  • Adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 5, 1775.
  • On July 8, it was submitted to King George III, who was the kings of England during the American Revolution
  • It was written by John Dickinson, a politician and solicitor from Philadelphia.
  • It was an attempt by colonists to have rights without going to war with Britain.
  • King George refused to read it, because he thought the colonists would come to rebel.
