Crime statistics rose during the prohibition era instead of decreased as they thought.

Alcohol was illegal, but people still made it and sold it, they were called moonshiners
Illegal bars and clubs called speakeasies where people drank alcohol and did other illegal activities were all over the place.
Crime actually got worse instead of better like lawmakers thought it would.
Moonshiners often got caught
