BATTLE OF FORT SUMTER

  • The beginning of the civil war in 1861 when confederate troops fired on fort Sumter.
  • In two days fort Sumter fell.
  • The confederates went after it because it had guns.
  • President Lincoln sent 75,000 troops to stop the sloughs rebellion.

FIRST BATTLE OF BULL RUN

  • It showed both north and south that it would not be an easy battle.
  • The battle was fought near the Manassas Junction in Virginia.

BATTLE OF ANTIETAM

  • Took place on September 17,1862.
  • It halted general Lees northward march.
  • The bloodiest one day battle in US history.

BATTLE OF SHILOH

  • The battle where the union gained more more control of the Mississippi River.
  • The battle took place on April 6, 1862.
  • It was a two day battle where both north and south gained and lost ground.

SIEGE OF VICKSBURG

  • It was a six week blockade of the town Vicksburg which caused the citizens of the town starve and they surrendered.
  • It helped them gain more control of the south.

CLARA BARTON AND THE RED CROSS

  • Clara Barton was a volunteer for the war.
  • She started the American Red Cross association.

  • It was a speech give by president Lincoln.
  • It was about the norths commitment to win the war.
