On September 1st 2015 Oracle released Oracle Standard Edition 2 (SE2)

Oracle Standard Edition 2 is replacing the previous two editions Standard Edition and Standard Edition 1.

WHAT'S CHANGED

Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 may only be licensed on servers that have a maximum capacity of 2 sockets. When used with Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 may only be licensed on a maximum of 2 one-socket servers. In addition, notwithstanding any provision in Your Oracle license agreement to the contrary, each Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 database may use a maximum of 16 CPU threads at any time. When used with Oracle Real Application Clusters, each Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 database may use a maximum of 8 CPU threads per instance at any time. ”

WHAT ABOUT SUPPORT?

SE and SE1 customers will continue to receive Premier Support for existing licenses through the terminal release 12.1.0.1. until September 1st, 2016.

For release 11.2.0.4 of SE and SE1 this is is currently within Extended Support.
The Extended Support fees have been waived for the first year of Extended Support until January 2016.

SE and SE1 will be removed from the Price List on December 1, 2015

Zero cost for Oracle SE to SE2 migration

NUPS and Sockets will migrate 1:1. 
For Oracle Standard Edition (SE) customers wanting to migrate to Oracle Standard Edition 2 (SE2) there is no charge to migrate. NUPS and Sockets will migrate 1:1. Contracts will be amended to reflect the new changes to the licence metric.

  • If using NUPS and SE then check you are still within the newly set minimums if you migrate.

SE2 will have a limitation of maximum 2 socket systems
12.1.0.1 was the last SE and SE1 option and customers will need to upgrade to SE2 (12.1.0.2)

SE2 is out now

12.1.0.1 SE and SE1 customers will have 6 months of patching support once SE2 12.1.0.2 is released with quarterly patches still being available in Oct 2015 and Jan 2016.
