CONNECTICUT COLONY

LOCATION

  • Is located on the Atlantic coast of North America.
  • It was classified in the New England group of colonies.

FOUNDED

  • The Connecticut Colony was founded by Thomas Hooker.
  • The colony was founded because the group that was there had an argument with Massachusetts and wanted to break away.
  • The colony was founded in 1636, but ended in 1776

CLIMATE

  • They have temperate, regular climate.
  • Their winters are mild, but can drop down to -4. Yes it gets cold but there is lots of snow! There get 25-100 inches if snow each year.
  • The summers are fare, but can get humid sometimes. The temperature has an average of 81 degrees fahrenheit.

RECOURCES

  • Living in the Connecticut colony gave you accesses to lots of fish, whales for their oil, and timber because of the dense forest.
  • The soil was poor so it made farming crops like wheat difficult. They could grow corn,pumpkins, rye, squash, and beans could be raised.

RELIGION

  • The religion in the Connecticut colony was all Puritan.
  • The Puritans did not tolerate any other religion the their colony.

GOVERNMENT

  • The governor in the colony help executive power, it was like holding the crown in England.
  • The council was made up of powerful men who supported the governor.
  • An assembly was chosen by the citizens, of the towns and countries.

PERSUASIVE

  • The colony of Connecticut has a beautiful fall with colorful leaves covering the land.
  • The citizens are involved in some of the governmental decisions.
  • Fun Fact- Was nicknamed the Constitution state.
