CHARLES
Born in 1902 on Feb 4th in Detroit.
He grew up on a farm in Little Falls, Minnesota
His moms name evageline and his dads name is Charles L.
As a child he showed a high interest in mechanics.
At age 18, he entered the University of Wisconsin to study engineering.

He didn't show to much interest in school so he left after 2yrs to become a barnstormer
A barnstormer is a pilot who performed daredevil stunts at fairs.
Age 20 he enlisted in the US army to be trained to be a army Air Service Reserve Pilot
Age 21 he graduated from the Army's flight-training school at Brooks and Kelly fields
As the best pilot in his class, Robertson Aircraft corporation of St.Louis hired him

His job there was to fly mail between St.Louis and chicago.
He gained a reputation as a good, capable pilot.
In 1919 a NYC hotel owner named Raymond Orteig offered $25,000
To the first aviator who could fly nonstop to paris from new york.
Several people have been killed or injured competing for the prize.

In 1927 the prize had still not been won.
Charles believed he could win the prize if he has the right plane.
He convinced 9 St.Louis businessmen to help him finance the cost of the plane.
Charles chose Ryan Aeronautical Company of San Diego to create a plane, which he helped design.
He named the plane the Spirit of St. Louis. On May 10-11, 1927.

IMPACT ON THE USA 1927 MAY 20-21ST
Charles was the American aviator, who made the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean.
Other pilots had crossed the Atlantic before him.
But Lindbergh was the first person to do it alone nonstop.
He had flown more than 3,600 miles in 33 hours.
Charles heroic flight thrilled people throughout the world. He was honored with awards and celebrations

Charles is named the most famous aviator in history
For flying from NY to Paris on a 33 hour trip nonstop
He died august 26, 1974
