CANCUN

Cancún, a Mexican city on the Yucatán Peninsula bordering the Caribbean Sea, is known for its beaches, numerous resorts and energetic nightlife. It’s composed of 2 distinct areas: the more traditional downtown area, El Centro, and Zona Hotelera, a long, beachfront strip of high-rise hotels, nightclubs, shops and restaurants. Cancun is also a famed destination for students during college’s spring break period.

LOCATION

• The state of Quintana Roo, where Cancun is located, is 550 miles south of Miami in southeastern Mexico. Cancun city is linked to the L-shaped Cancun resort island in the Caribbean Sea.

GEOGRAPHY

• Cancun Island is roughly 16 miles long and its highest elevation is 200 feet above sea level.
• Cancun was developed by Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo using a computer-generated development plan, and much of the white sand along the beach had to be brought from elsewhere along the coast.

Along the coastline are numerous coral islands and the second largest reef barrier in the world. Because of this, Cancun is an extremely popular dive site.
Cancun's rainy season lasts from May to October, when the heat and humidity are often coupled with afternoon storms. From June to November, hurricane season, Cancun is prone to flooding.

Major cities and places
The major cities are Cancun and Cozumel. Its places are Xplor, Xel-Ha, Xcaret and tulum

This places are parks where you can dive with sharks and stingrays, swim in underground waters, snorkel, ride a buggy into the jungle,have tours, visit Mayan ruins, enjoy traditional foods and drinks, entertaining shows, etc.

The main language is Spanish, but English is spoken too because is a tourist place. Other language that is spoken is Mayan, which is spoken by the indians.
