Columbia

  • The name was originated from the name Christopher Columbus.
  • The ending -ia was added from the latin ending for countries.
  • Columbia is a term that has been used since 1697.
  • It was Chief Justice Samuel Sewall who first wrote a poem about her.
  • She symbolizes USA and liberty,and inspired the USA spirt and parades.

  • Columbia is wearing a hat that says World Power.
  • Columbia represents America.
  • The hat represents that American can have world power.
  • The smoke from the hat says Expansion, and this shows America can expand.
  • It shows we can expand to where we want, like smoke goes where it wants.

Uncle sam

  • Uncle Sam origins from a man named Samuel Wilson.
  • Samuel was a meat packager and he sent meat to US army in 1812.
  • The America soldiers referred the meat as "Uncle Sam's" in the War of 1812.
  • Uncle Sam is a symbol of patriotism.
  • He was on many poster trying to get young men to join the army, and fight.

  • Cuba,Puerto Rico,Hawaii,and The Philippines are his new students.
  • He says give up your culture, and to become American. 
  • He says look at all the civilizations ahead of you.  
  • There's a African America & Indian student,also a Chinese student outside. 

Bald Eagle

  • The bald eagle was chosen in 1782 to symbolizes the US.
  • Before it was a national symbol many states already used it.
  • It was on New York uniforms in the year of 1778.
  • It symbolizes a long life, grand strength, and graceful looks.
  • The bald eagle is on the quarter, the great seal, and is our national bird

  • This shows the U.S.A has power over the rest of the world.
  • The eagle that is suppose to be America is spreading its wings wider.
  • The eagle's wings are America reaching out to dominate other countries.

STATUE of liberty

  • The Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from France.
  • The statue arrived in New York on June 19 in the year of 1885.
  • This statue is a symbol of liberty.
