SEAWEED

  • The scientific name for seaweed is algae.
  • There are many types of seaweed. The type of seaweed that you can eat is called Cladosiphon. (Clad-oh-sy-fin)
  • Seaweed can grow to 3 ft long.

SEA GRASS

  • Sea grass provides habitats for shrimp, fish, and plankton.
  • Sea grass grows in shallow water because it needs a lot of sunlight.
  • These plants have roots and live on ocean floors.

KELP

  • Kelp grows in cold coastal waters.
  • It is the largest marine plant in the world.
  • It can reach up to 250 feet.

MERMAID'S FAN PLANT

  • The Mermaid's Fan plant has a short stem that grows out of the "alive rock".
  • These plants form a fan like leaf that is oval to round in shape. This is where the sunlight reaches.
  • Only a few fish eat the plant.
  • This plant is found in the Caribbean.
