LONG BONE

  • typically longer than they are wide
  • they have a shaft with heads at both ends.
  • Long bones are mostly compact bone
  • All the bones of the limbs,except the wrist and ankle bones, are long bones.

  • generally cube-shaped and contain mostly spongy bone
  • best-known example is the patella, or kneecap.
