PRESENTATION OUTLINE

X-RAYS

BY ZACH FERGUSON AND KAYLA WILLIAMS

Untitled Slide

  • The wavelength of an x-ray is about the
  • size of an atom.

Untitled Slide

  • A fluoroscope uses x-rays. This device is used
  • to see into the human body for diagnosis or
  • treatment of certain conditions. For example,
  • they may be used in orthopedic surgery.

Untitled Slide

  • One interesting face about x-rays is that
  • W. C. Roentgen discovered them by using a
  • fluorescent light, a tube, and a vaccume.
  • He didn't know what he was looking for when he
  • discovered them.

Untitled Slide

  • Q: How are X-rays harmful, how can we
  • protect ourselves?
  • A: X-rays can make chemicals inside our cells change.
  • This can even break our DNA chains. These broken
  • chains can turn make mutations that can cause cancer.

Untitled Slide

  • We can protect ourselves by limiting exposer to
  • X-rays. One way doctors already do this is by
  • making us wear a lead and wool blanket while
  • getting X-rays for medical reasons.
