What is Mononucleosis?
Mononucleosis (Mono) is an
infectious disease that causes you to
feel tired and sore. The symptoms may last for months.
It effects your spleen, lymph nodes
and salivary glands.

Symptoms
Sore throat and tonsils
Swollen lymph nodes
Jaundice (yellow skin and eyes)
Enlarged spleen
Headaches

SYMPTOMS CONTINUED
Chest pain
Skin rashes
Fever and chills

Treatment
There is no medicine yet developed to treat Mono
Non-medicinal treatment options include
Getting lots of rest
Avoiding sports
Gargling salt water to soothe your throat

Prevention
Avoiding close contact with infected people
(kissing and being sneezed on)
Having good hygiene (Washing your hands etc.)
Not sharing glasses, toothbrushes, food and eating utensils

Also called “Kissing Disease”
Most common in ages 15-25
Once you have been exposed to
the virus, it is with you forever.

Non lethal
Over 50% of children have been exposed
Over 90% of adults are carriers but,
most adults are immured to the virus
