I is for Ice. The Socs hearts were as cold as ice whenever they saw the Greasers. Although not all of them were the same. Randy didn't want to be that way. He wasn't going to show up at the rumble, he was going to just stay home so he didn't have to fight.
J is for Johny. Johny is a character full of strength at such a young age. He killed somebody and got through it! Then he saved kids from the burning church with a smile on his face the whole time. He broke his back in the process of being a hero and he still stayed strong even though his parents were never there for him.
K is for Kid. Johny and Ponyboy are still young, they're still kids. Yet they have traveled all the way to that church and kept hidden. After that they saved children from a burning church. They did all of this and they are just 14 and 16 years old.
L is for light. Johny was the "pet" of the group, the one that held them all together. Without Johny the group will not be the same. He lit something up inside the boys, a force to be reckoned with. These boys will slip away if Johny doesn't survive his broken back.
M is for Mother. For Johny, a terrible word, a person that was never there for him. For Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Dally, something that's gone, no longer on the Earth. Mother in this story is just an upsetting, sad, excruciating pain.
N is for Newspaper. Ponyboy was terrified when he saw his "hero" newspaper. Him and Sodapop could be separated from Darry! This upset Ponyboy although he had hope that it wouldn't happen.
O is for Oklahoma. This was not necessarily where there "home" was. There house was there but house and home are different. Houses are just places you live, a home is a place where your family is, where you love to be, a home is where your heart is.
P is for Peace. That's all Ponyboy wanted, he even dreamed about it. Peace in the country with Sodapops horse and their parents still alive. Ponyboy didn't want to fight with the Socs anymore.
Q is for Quarrel. When Johny wanted to turn himself in, it started a quarrel. Dally was not happy with that choice. They decided to go back to the church and discovered the fire.
